How to cook buckwheat

Learn how to cook buckwheat, a naturally gluten-free grain that’s high in fiber.

1.

Rinse
Pour 1 c. buckwheat into a fine mesh strainer and rinse until the water runs clear. For a deeper, nuttier flavor, toast the buckwheat in a dry skillet over medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes before cooking.

Boil
Bring 2 c. water and ¼ tsp. salt to a boil in a small saucepan over high heat. Add the rinsed buckwheat.

Simmer
Stir the buckwheat and reduce heat to low. Simmer, covered, for 13 to 15 minutes or until the water is absorbed and the buckwheat is soft.

4.

Rest and serve
Remove saucepan from heat and let stand for 10 minutes. Fluff buckwheat with a fork and serve.
