Irish Fondue

  • 1 cup pale ale beer
  • 1 tsp Hy-Vee garlic powder
  • 1 tsp coarsely ground Hy-Vee black pepper
  • 2 (7 oz each) packages Kerrygold Irish cheese, shredded
  • 1 tbsp Hy-Vee all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Hy-Vee ground mustard
  • 2 tsp fresh thyme leaves
  • Pumpernickel rye bread, optional

In a small saucepan, bring beer, garlic powder and black pepper to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low to maintain a gentle simmer.
In a large bowl, toss shredded cheese with flour and mustard. Slowly whisk into beer mixture and continue whisking until cheese is melted and slightly thickened. Stir in thyme leaves. Serve with bread, if desired.
