Vampire Hearts

  • 1 (15-oz.) pkg. Hy-Vee ready-to-bake 9-inch pie crusts, (2-ct.)
  • 8 tsp That's Smart! cherry pie filling, divided
  • 1 Hy-Vee large egg, beaten
  • 1 (1.5-oz.) pkg. Kit Kat milk chocolate candy, for garnish

Preheat oven to 375°. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside.
Unroll crusts on a lightly floured surface. Cut 8 hearts from each crust using a 3-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter for a total of 16 hearts. Brush edges of 8 hearts with water; place 1 rounded teaspoon cherry pie filling in the center of each. Top with remaining 8 hearts. Crimp edges with fork.
Place on prepared baking sheet. Make a ½-inch slit in top right corner of each heart. Lightly brush hearts with beaten egg. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from oven; cool completely on wire rack.
If desired, break apart Kit Kats. Cut each stick in half; insert 1 pice into each pastry slit.
